Radar I am not offended by anything that anybody has said on this website. So far I have enjoyed this entire discussion and look forward to reading more. I am a truck driver, and I was a sailor in the United States Navy it's kind of hard to hurt my feelings or offend me. I'm not a politician and this is not spin city, the things I have said applie to me and I believe in. You can sit there and spin the fact that it was a hypothetical statement and the lack of faith is 1 possibility for the low attendance. But I'm not trying to catch flies so I'm not going to be sweet. And for the record you gain strength by action and knowledge by listening. Come to the meeting on sunday introduce yourself to me and we can talk about this more, it's at 12 o'clock at OUR union hall

It seems you forget easily things that I have said! First and foremost, it is NOT 2 on 1 because I have no clue who Mightymac is! I simply stated that I was happy he or she responded. Secondly, I believe it was you who wrote that we were NOT mighty at all. You based this on poor meeting attendance. When I said "lack of faith" I noted it a possible reason for the low attendance! Go back and read what I've written. You'll see that I'm not condemning anybody (unlike yourself) I'm simply offering POSSIBILITIES, things that may deter members from attending. And verbally attacking you? If acknowledging your negative comments is an attack, then change your approach! After re-reading my posts, I don't see any one of them stating that I have suffered any injustices. I have no problem with who I am, nor do I require defense! **WARNING** Do Not Be Offended! You may eat an elephant one bite at a time, but you also catch more flies with honey than vinegar! In other words, IF you're truly interested in fixing the problem, drop your weapon and try to listen! I have no ill will toward anyone, just listening to what others are saying. Isn't that how we gain strength? By listening to one another and speaking up for what you believe in.

Ok, so it's 2 on 1, I find it funny that you can commit the injustice that you feel is being committed against you. I challenge you both, call you out, and try to convince you to attend our meetings and you verbally attack me. I believe you have me confused with Pat I'm not a comity man or an alternate I'm not here to defend you. Radar I'm sure you like passing judgment on others then demanding respect, that is something you earn. "Hippocracy thy name is you". You claim no faith , you claim no one will let you speak the truth, you want to be defended, you want respect, but you won't attend the meetings. My job is to keep the peace at the meetings, come to the one on Sunday and respectfully ask for the floor. As long as you keep your language rated "G" I'll do my job and you will be heard. Then I will respect you.

MightyMac, Glad you finally responded! I didn't think you were still here when that last comment stood for days unanswered. You are a GREAT example of what I meant when I said "lack of faith" being a possible deterrent from the meetings. Dennis leading with not ONE, but TWO insults to your post confirms the fact that there are issues in the ranks. Sorry Mr. Sgt at Arms, but if that's all the respect you have to offer to the membership, you may have missed your calling as a public defender!

First of all Dennis I am not a wilting flower, Secondly I am not trying to solve americas problems, thirdly You know what I said is the truth, The union does not want its members speaking out of the injustice it commits in the name of being Union, countless members Have had countless things happen that ARE NOT the union way...Get Honest Dennis, you know it and I know it and so do many other UAW Acc members,Drivers are not stupid and can see right thur the so called union. be safe

Dennis said:   April 1, 2011 10:46 pm PST
Hey Mighty mac I didn't know you were such a wilting flower, And your feelings were hurt so easily. There is an old saying out there that goes " how do you eat an elephant? 1 bite at a time". Before we go trying to solve america's problems about truth, justice, and the American way. Let's take one bite at a time and work on the problems at ACC and our Union "the 659". You want to claim that you will get verbally attacked if you speak your mind. Your problem is solved, I'm your Sargent at arms. If you come to the meeting April 10th at noon and you respectfully ask for the floor, you can complain about whatever and whomever you want. I will make sure no one will physically or verbally attack you.

Mightymac said:   March 20, 2011 4:57 pm PST
The point of my last comments is the subject Who really cares about truth anymore? It not just at ACC or the UAW, Its everywhere, The truth doesnt matter much anymore and in the bigger Photo , America is in serious trouble because of it. Be safe

Intresting discussion about union attendance,EVERYTHING Rises and falls on leadership and I agree Dennis has a valid point However Its clear their are many reasons as to why drivers dont show up maybe drivers figure The UAW Is the company and the truth is very much in doubt,If you get to speak at the meeting about this chances are you will be verbally attacked to get you to shut up,get real, you and I have seen it happen. If you listen to the UAW You quickly will see the words do not meet the actions, Truth from the company or the union is NOT the way things are done,Maybe thats the reason members dont show up.

Radar your math is a bit off, other than your drive to and from work if you're pre-tripping, or fueling outside of 70 hours a week you're out of your mind. Also the 36 hour reset I factored into 440 hours off. By the way if you're getting 8 hours a sleep a night you are a lucky person. When I was in Pontiac the extent of our union meetings were hanging out in the garage with management eating burgers. Now we have official meetings and because you won't use your name I don't know if you've ever been to one of them. So I can't help but ask how can you say "lack of faith" if you haven't been to one sense Pat took over?

Dennis, Since we're using math to figure this out lets include the rest of the formula. If your lucky enough to sleep 8 hrs per night, you'll sleep for 56 hrs per week or 224 hrs per month. Subtract that from 440 and now you have 216 hrs. Some of us drive 1 hr each way to get there or 12 hrs per wk / 48 hrs per month. Take that from 216 and now you have 168 hrs for the month. Factor in the 30mins of "Volunteer" time to do the pre-trips and fuel at the annex. That's 3 hrs a week or 12 hrs a month. That leaves 156 hours a month or 39 hrs per week! 36 hrs needed for the log reset... That means a 70 hr wk driver has 3 hrs per week in their pocket. And it seems the "Lack of Faith" portion that I mentioned may play a role in deciding how those 3 hrs are spent! I'm not disagreeing that the low turnout is wrong, but lets fix the why and see what happens.

Dennis Wiltse said:   March 18, 2011 11:56 am PST
Radar, what you will completely makes sense. But I would like you and anybody else that would read this that there are 720 hours in a month that has 30 days in it. If you were to work the maximum amount of hours in a 4 week given month. You'd work 280 hours, that leaves everybody a minimum of 440 hours left over. Are you telling me that you can't get all of that done in 339, and give 1 hour to the 659?

Radar said:   March 16, 2011 2:34 pm PST
It's nice of you to count how any people didn't show up! Thank You for that. Now how about thinking about possible reasons why? Could it be a lack of faith? Maybe Drivers have FAMILIES at home that they like to see once in a while? Hmmmm .... Maybe there are things they'd like to do around their HOME that they're busting their ass working to keep? Just a few examples of WHY the attendance might be so low. If you'd like find out, Why not Ask? Don't condemn ANYBODY without knowing the facts!

Dennis Wiltse said:   March 15, 2011 1:19 pm PST
We can no longer be called the mighty 659!!!! We currently have over 500 drivers working at acc right now. 30 of us showed up to the union meeting on sunday. That is not even 6 percent of our total workforce, 6 percent, I'll say that again.... 6..... percent. That's not very "mighty"

Dennis Wiltse said:   March 15, 2011 10:44 am PST
March 13th 2011 about 10:30 a.m. I went into donut delight and picked up 2 dozen of their finest. My thoughts were anyone that shows up early can help themselves. As I walked into our humble and beloved union hall "The Mighty 659". I have to say I was less than proud Of my fellow brothers and sisters. 30 People showed up to our union meeting, That was it just 30. We are discussing serious issues at these meeting for instance Our jobs, our trucks, our pay, and our healthcare benefits. 30 people showed up. It was embarrassing I expect more from our membership. It is 1 hour a month

This is awesome Mark !!!! Kathy, you shouldn't come in early because the only way you are going to get them to fix it is to just do the run as they have it set up. If your late for your window then so be it. When they ask you why you are late that's when you tell them or show them what the problem is and what they need to do to change it !!!

More rules and more paperwork are the normal in Detroit. Don't you just love each new memo stapled to your paycheck every week? And the additional information that you need but, is so hard to get. Now the Canada drivers that have loads going to Ft. Wayne or Lansing have to refuel at the Duty Free Ammex on the U.S. side before going into Canada. Any driver running the state-side leg should not have to refuel. No exceptions! If you have less than a full tank, you must refuel. Anyone that has driven the 401 understands that 15-30 minutes can make or break you when it comes to your window times. It's apparent that saving a dime is more important than window times. Raise your hand if you come in early so you can perform the job the company expects within the time frame they have set up! From what I understand Flint's fuel problems are also huge. How is it handled in the other locations? Question. Has any driver received more than 5 minutes of training from someone who couldn't answer your question about the new electronic log books? Kathy
